Courtney Buford
Title: Assistant Coach

Courtney Chatman Buford enters her first year on staff at Hillsborough Community College as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach.

She brings energy, passion and strong mentorship to the Lady Hawks program. Courtney is a native of Plant City, Florida, where she was a four-year letter winner and standout basketball player at Plant City High School under Ginger Forté. Courtney played all five positions during her tenure. She was selected for the All-Star team and 2nd team all-county, and made history as the third woman in school history to sign a Division I scholarship to play basketball.

Courtney quickly found her calling in coaching the game. She began as a volunteer assistant at her alma mater under Ginger Forté in 2012 at Southeastern University. In her tenure, “Chatty” (as Courtney was affectionately named by her players) spearheaded recruiting and spiritual formation. She recruited a strong class of freshmen that led the team to a record of 18-14 (2012-2013), and 20-12 (2013-2014). As she takes on her role as assistant coach, Courtney looks to help Coach Springs recruit overlooked, raw talent that will enable the Lady Hawk program to soar high for many years to come.

Coach Chat obtained a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy & Religion from Florida A&M University (2011) and a Master of Arts in Ministerial Leadership from Southeastern University (2013). She will receive a Doctor of Ministry with a focus in Pastoral Care & Chaplaincy from Oral Roberts University in 2020. She currently resides in Lakeland, Florida, and has one son named Chiraim.
